Featuring Jai Uttal, Samia Ahmad, Mazatl Galindo, Consuelo Luz, and Pops Mohamed; Tulku’s mystical musicians cross cultures, genres and styles, taking the listener on a journey: out-of-mind and into the realm of the one-global-heart.
All new age fans know that Jim Wilson is a peaceful cat that’s not to be trifled with. This is his latest group guise in which we brings together a crew of heavy weight instrumental/new age players for a combined outing under his skilled hand that has Olympic implications all it’s own. A stunning set of adult chill music, this is the kind of sound that calms you down and gets you in touch with yourself when almost nothing else will do. Here’s a first call player working at the top of his game and everyone will enjoy it.
Chris Spector, Midwest Record
Tulku, the ethnic fusion project of Grammy award winning producer Jim Wilson, picks up where his previous albums left off, offering trancey tribal grooves that meld ancient sounds with a modern twist. Low to mid-tempo rhythms are present throughout the recording, surrounded by flute, keyboards, dotar, kora and vocals on some tracks, including Jai Uttal on the opening cut “Narayana.” The music has a mellow moodiness to it that makes the music feel deep and complex. Besides Uttal, the other vocalists that make an appearance are quite different in style, with Consuelo Luz providing a Spanish tinge to “Ama,” Primeaux & Mike lending their smoky peyote song vocals to “From High Above” and the mystical sweetness of Indian vocalist Samia Ahmad adding lightness to a pair of tracks.
