Album Description

Chinmaya Dunster continues his soulful explorations on the sarod of Indian ragas blended with Western chord structures played on guitar and keyboards. These meditative compositions are meant for quiet moments in the listener’s life. They may also be used as aids for techniques based on seven sense meditations taken from the ancient text: The Vigyan Bhairav Tantra. Each meditation track is detailed below.

Track 1: SIGHT MEDITATION Based on Raga Asawari

Using this music as a meditation: Sit comfortably, gaze at a candle flame, blinking as little as possible.  When your attention wanders let the music be a reminder that returns your attention to the flame. Continue until the eyes begin to water,  at which point close them, and relax.

The nature of the mind is to move from one object to another, to move constantly… Gazing means not allowing your consciousness to move…The question is to stop the mind completely in your gaze, to focus it, so the inner movement,  the fidgeting, stops; the inner wavering stops. You are simply looking at, not doing anything.  That deep looking will change you completely.  It will become a meditation.” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 2

Track 2: TOUCH MEDITATION Based on Raga Dhani

Using this music as a meditation: Sit down, or lie on your back, on solid ground if possible,  and close your eyes. Feel gravity connecting you to the Earth and the infinite support you receive from beneath you. Let the music help you dissolve into that connection.  As you do so, become aware of a subtle change:

A moment comes when you feel that you are weightless, that there is no weight. When there is no weight you are no more a body, because the weight is of the body — not of you…  You have to dehypnotize yourself.  This is the hypnosis, the belief that “I am a body and that is why I feel weight.” If you can dehypnotize yourself into realizing that you are not a body, you will not feel weight.  And when you do not feel weight you are beyond mind.” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 1

Track 3: HEART MEDITATION | Based on Raga Bilawal

Using this music as a meditation: Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes.  Allow the music to direct your attention to your chest area. Feel the warm glow that comes from connecting to your heart chakra. Let tears come if they do, but keep returning your awareness to the heart.

When you can look through the heart, the whole universe looks like one unity…The heart gives a unitary experience, it joins together, and the ultimate synthesis is God. If you can look through the heart, the whole universe looks like one.  That oneness is God.” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 1

Track 4: SOUND MEDITATION | Based on Raga Bhairavi

Using this music as a meditation: Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes.  Allow the music to enter you without judging it. You become a passive receiver through your ears.

The art of meditation is the art of listening with your total being. If one can learn how to listen rightly, one has learned the deepest secret of meditation.” ~Osho, The Invitation No. 14

Track 5: SCENT MEDITATION | Based on Raga Kirwani

Using this music as a meditation:  Sit or lie comfortably with a scented flower (or a piece of cotton soaked in an essential oil) close to your nose and close your eyes. Bring your attention to the scent as you breath in, letting the scent pervade your whole experience. The music will be a reminder to stay alert. Then watch at the turning point when, for an instant breathing stops before the outbreath.

In that moment the happening is possible, because when you are not breathing , you are not in the world.” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 1

6.  TASTE MEDITATION | Based on Raga Khammaj

Using this music as a meditation: Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes. Place a piece of fruit in your mouth and, with the support of the music, bring your whole attention to its taste.

When eating or drinking, become the taste of the food or drink, and be filled…When you feel sweetness, become that sweetness. And then it can be felt all over the body – not just in the mouth, not just on the tongue, it can be felt all over the body!  A certain sweetness – or anything else – is spreading in ripples. Whatsoever you are eating, feel the taste and become the taste… In this way your sensitivity can grow, and you can become more alive and more filled.” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 1

7. CONSCIOUSNESS MEDITATION | Based on Raga Malkauns

Using this music as a meditation: The six previous meditations have involved focusing awareness on a single sense. Sit or lie comfortably, close your eyes and let the music help you to bring your awareness to the question:   WHO is experiencing?  As one sense after another claims your attention, your mind drifting from one impression to another,  WHO is at the center?

Remember yourself, whatsoever you are doing. It is very difficult. It looks very easy, but you will go on forgetting. Even for three or four seconds you cannot remember yourself.  You will have a feeling that you are remembering, and suddenly you will have moved to some other thought. Even with this thought that “Okay, I am remembering myself,” you will have missed, because this thought is not self-remembering… Feel “I am,” not the words “I am.” Don’t verbalize, just feel that you are. Don’t think, FEEL!” ~Osho, from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra Volume 1

Only one thing is going to remain with you: that is your witnessing, that is your watchfulness.  This watchfulness is meditation.” ~OSHO
